4. V's Character Agency Doesn't Make Sense

For as much as many fans are imagining Cyberpunk 2077 as something of a "sci-fi Skyrim", the reality is that it has more in common with The Witcher - at least from what we've seen.

By that I mean you're not playing a blank slate, designed from the ground up to be moulded into any shape you please, personality-wise. Instead, whilst V can be customised in terms of weight, gender fluidity and clothing, they will have a personality that comes through regardless.

Again, just look at your dialogue responses. There's every possibility that embodying a character with a specific attitude comes down on the wrong side of immersion.

Point being: In The Witcher you were never anything other than Geralt. There was no elaborate customisation screen; no allusion to "make the character your own" outside of armour and hairstyles. You couldn't even switch weapon types - Geralt was a swordsman and nothing else.

V, on the other hand, has an agency in this world that walks between two extremes.

On one hand they've been shown auto-responding to NPCs, phrasing responses with a certain tone or talking in a way that establishes them as a figurehead in an assumed rebellion arc, but on the other, you can customise a ton of specific elements and "make V your own"... but in every way other than the main story.

Does this mean we're left with a Fallout 4 situation where the overarching sense of customisation and agency is actually a facade? Time will tell.
