Cyberpunk 2077 - 8 Major Worries We Can't Shake
2. It's CD Projekt RED's First FPS
One of the bigger worries surrounding any developer jumping into uncharted waters comes from the inevitability of the first instalment being a test case.
Like Ubisoft with Assassin's Creed and The Division, those first instalments succeeded in spite of their core mechanics; gameplay being serviceable enough, but it was the world-building, ancillary mechanics or notion of developer ambition that carried things through.
There's a reason developers stick to what they know, and whilst I commend CDPR for taking a MASSIVE risk in shifting genres so completely, we're going from fantasy hack n' slash action adventure, to sci-fi first-person hero-shooter.
I'm not saying CDPR can't get this right, but going off the gameplay that's out there and considering the competition in the FPS genre, it'll take a miracle for a first-time team to compete with the likes of Call of Duty, Titanfall or DOOM when it comes to the feel of shooting.
