1. World Tendency/Morality System
A return to dedicated servers could also mean the return of the world tendency system from Demons Souls. This was a kind of morality system where players choices and actions during the course of play had a knock on effect on the world around them. Killing major bosses shifted world tendency towards White, while dying and/or killing either players or NPCs would shift it towards a state of pure Black. This influenced (among other things) the games difficulty, number of souls dropped by enemies and ones attack power when in soul form. The idea of having a morality system such as World Tendency may not be unique to Demons Souls (though arguably no one has implemented it in as an idiosyncratic a manner as From Software), but the act of having your actions have real time consequences on the world around you is a fantastic way of adding greater depth and immersion, as well as a tangible sense of having to weight up choices and act on them accordingly. Heres hoping, then, that Dark Souls II sees the return of the World Tendency system in some form or another. So there you have it: my top ten changes that I believe would make Dark Souls II a richer and even more memorable experience than its predecessor. A few of these issues are already being worked on by From Software; others they may only have in mind or perhaps not thought about. One thing is for certain though. Dark Souls II will be a gaming experience that fans will not soon forget. This list is by no means exhaustive, of course, and a lot of people out there will no doubt have their own lists of things they feel need bettering or want to change in Dark Souls II. Let us know what they are in the comments below.
