Days Gone: 10 Reasons It's One Of The PS4's Best Exclusives
8. Fighting Freakers Can Be So Satisfying
Another element of Days Gone that was (perhaps not unjustifiably) ripped to shreds before launch was the game's main enemy, Freakers. The devs insisted that they were not zombies, even though for all intents and purposes they absolutely were, something which was pointed out ad nauseam at any given opportunity.
That early assessment wasn't incorrect either; the Freakers behave and fulfil the same role zombies always do in this kind of fiction, even boasting the same special infected types that games have been relying on for years now. That doesn't really matter though - what matters is whether or not they make for satisfying gameplay, and these hordes absolutely do.
There are some technical issues holding them back, but interacting with Freakers always leads to some intense moments, whether you're fighting a handful or an entire horde. Seeing a mass of bodies piling your way to eat your face off always inspires a pang of primordial fear, and it adds a unique element to Days Gone that no other major open world game has.
