Days Gone: 10 Reasons It's One Of The PS4's Best Exclusives

4. It's A New Take On Post-Apocalyptic Fiction

It's easy to look at Days Gone and see nothing more than "yet another zombie game". The art style evokes The Last of Us, the Freaker hordes are reminiscent of World War Z, and the story tackles the same kind of community drama that shows like The Walking Dead have been mining for nigh-on a decade now.

But while, in the broad strokes at least, the game does touch upon pretty much every single convention you expect to see, Days Gone is always attempting to do original things and tell unique stories with a familiar toolset.

Even elements which could have come across as a little ridiculous, like the fact everyone in this world drives the noisiest motorcycles in the world despite Freakers being attracted to sound, awards the game a real sense of personality, and helps differentiate this story from similar tales.

Sony Bend's game hasn't exactly broken the mould or completely reinvented the wheel when it comes to post-apocalyptic fiction, but it certainly brings enough new to the table to make it stand out.
