It was always suspected that Death Stranding would feature some sort of online element, but that has finally been completely confirmed, even if we haven't seen it in action.

After the most recent trailer for Death Stranding, a lot more information was released online, including on the game's official website. Not only did this confirm several other details about the game, but it also mentioned some online components.

According to the game's website, players will be able to asynchronously work with other players and "send supplies, share safe houses and walk in the footsteps of fellow couriers to reunite civilization". It all sounds very similar to how Dark Souls handles multiplayer, and really plays off the idea that you're working to reunite civilisation.

Kojima has also gone on record in the past to say that players would be connecting with ropes and working together to achieve a goal, which makes it sound very similar to the nuclear defusing element of Metal Gear Solid V.
