7. The Level Cap Is Too Low
Bungie smartly didn't hold back on informing players that Destiny's soft level cap would be level 20 ahead of time, which given the game's epic scale and massive price-tag proved hugely divisive among players. Your average Destiny player can reach the soft level cap within about 15 hours, at which point they will need to acquire Motes of Light in order to purchase armour which will allow them to continue progressing to level 30. It's a peculiar system, and in honesty, not one that seems at all necessary. In fairness to Bungie, there's a lot of other things to do in the game once you've hit the cap, such as playing more PvP, endgame raids, and more challenges that they will be rolling out weekly, but for any RPG nut, a level cap this low is undeniably disappointing. Sure, we don't want a game that makes us tirelessly grind for 500 hours to reach the cap, but at the same time, given how much time and money has gone into the project, we would have expected a soft cap of at least 50, with a whole lot more missions to accommodate that requirement. Though future DLC will almost certainly raise the cap in time, we won't be expecting to ascend past 30 for at least another 6 months. Whether Bungie can keep us interested until then will be entirely up to them.
