Destiny 2 Beta: 7 Ups & 2 Downs

5. They Killed The Speaker! (Pretty Much)

Destiny The Speaker
Bungie

Remember this guy?

Despite being voiced by the legendary Bill Nighy, The Speaker felt like a listless, Peter Molyneux-alike that babbled on about your purpose in this world, spouting one of the lines that helped bury Destiny under a mound of self-serious lameness at launch: "I don't have time to explain why I don't have time to explain".

Across Destiny's life cycle you can tell Bungie wanted to get as far away from these earlier reputation-builders as possible, replacing Peter Dinklage with Nolan North as your Ghost, and now, killing off the Speaker in D2's opener.

Now, he's only reported as M.I.A during the Cabal assault, but you can tell this is a way to get rid of his half-asleep tonality, perhaps revealing his face if we retrieve a battered version of him, or doing away altogether if the fan response is that they just don't care.

Either way, there's no monotone rambling in the beta, and that's a very good thing.
