6. Visuals

The Devil May Cry series has always been interesting from a visual perspective, though the majority of the game's battles - particularly in the earlier, technically limited titles - were confined to crowd hallways, opulent mansions and linear battlegrounds. Devil May Cry mixes things up a bit with its starkly unique visual style, which ventures away from gigantic cathedrals and grey buildings, towards a highly-stylised, frequently neon aesthetic which helps Ninja Theory to differentiate this title as their own. Needless to say, it looks fantastic; the world has a far more surreal look to it, with Limbo City feeling less-linear and more ambitiously-constructed than the locales of previous games. With parts of the city breaking apart and manipulating themselves before your very eyes as the demons attempt to enhance their foothold, it makes for a bizarre, unforgettable gaming experience.
