8. Story
My favorite part of a video game is its story. The core mechanic that drives our characters forward into harms way is something that many people and developers over look. Fortunately for DMC fans, the story is solid. I do not want to divulge to much of what will happen for those still on the fence but I will explain enough to get you interested. In this new setting of DMC, many things have changed but still feel familiar. Our story begins with the introduction of a new, younger and if I don't say so myself, a more badass Dante. Being so young he does not know much about his parents or what he is capable of nor does he have a purpose in life. He has had a very rough upbringing and all he knows is how to kill demons. He is known as a "terrorist" by the raptor news (controlled by demons). Then Kat , a member of The Order, comes along aiding Dante and introduces our hero to his twin brother Vergil which is where the story picks up. We find out that Dante and Vergil are the offspring of the great Demon Sparda (the right hand of the demon king Mundus) and the Angel Eva; making the two of them Nephilim. Half demon and half angel, the two are the only ones of their kind and the only ones capable of taking down the Demon King and saving humanity from demon control. What makes this story so compelling is that it is a time period in Dante's ( and Vergils) life that we have not seen before. We know what Dante can become and how he and Vergil clash when they are adults. But we don't know what happened before that, we never find out what happened as they grew up. DMC gives us a chance to see Dante and his brother in a new perspective with a new story. It gives us a chance to see the two of them develop and grow in ways we haven't before.
