Doctor Who: 10 Things The 2021 Video Game NEEDS To Be Great

9. Get The Actors From The Show To Voice Their Characters

There's nothing worse than booting up a licensed game, eager to interact with that fictional universe you loved so much in the movies or on TV, only for the main character to open their mouth... and the voice of a clear impersonator pours out.

It's like eating a knock-off Mars bar: it might taste okay and it might get the job done, but you know that it's not the real thing, and that makes it harder to swallow. For this reason alone, we're hoping that Maze Theory manages to get as many actors from the show as possible, to voice their characters in the game.

We don't know which characters will be included yet, and if the game features thirteen Doctors and dozens of companions, then it probably won't be feasible to get all those stars to record original dialogue - but the more, the merrier. And hey, if necessary, pulling pre-recorded lines from the show and slotting them in would be better than nothing.

In a similar vein, using official music from the show - especially the title music - would go a long way towards making the game feel like a true, authentic Doctor Who product. Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock wasn't a great game, but using Murray Gold's brilliant music, plugging in all the official sound effects, and getting Matt Smith and Alex Kingston to voice their characters gave it that added bit of fan-pleasing charm.
