DOOM Eternal: 8 Things We Learned From Hugo Martin On Joe Rogan Experience
3. Doom Eternal Will Feature An Updated Multiplayer
While the DOOM 2016 campaign was generally pretty well received by both critics and longtime fans of the series for bringing the core elements that made the first two DOOM titles so successful, with fast-paced ultra-gory action and a near-omnipotent protagonist to control, the multiplayer of the game was far less well-received.
Martin explains as much on his appearance on the JRE, noting that while 2016's multiplayer was serviceable, but failed to take risks and ended up being criticised for being too formulaic and similar to other first-person shooters.
That is set to be completely remedied in DOOM Eternal, with the game promising a complete shakeup in its multiplayer experience for both new, and longtime fans of the series to enjoy. One primary feature that Martin teased on the podcast was the inclusion of a 2v1 Battlemode that will allow players to play as either the Doom Slayer or as one of five daemons tasked with defeating the iconic character in two on one action.
The decision to remove more traditional deathmatch-style formats in online play clearly isn't Rogan's cup of tea, but with a litany of great games already capable of filling that void, its impressive to see DOOM attempt to shake things up in online gaming.
