Ah, the Ballista. The perfect weapon for shortening Satan's legions by a kneecap or two.

Part of what makes the Ballista such a good gun is how satisfying it is to get a direct hit. With the ability to literally punch through the bodies of even the toughest Arch Viles, (try summoning without an abdomen, you glorified, infernal spawn point) and you'll soon find yourself hunting down extra plasma ammo like Samuel Hayden looking for his legs.

The other part of what makes the Ballista so valuable can be summed up in one word: Marauders.

Marauders present a singular and frustrating challenge: An enemy that can block attacks, is as fast as you are, and counters any misstep. Ever hear the saying about the unstoppable force and the immovable object? Well, the Marauder's both. In many ways it's the ultimate immersive fight. After a few minutes you too will be just as furious as the Doom Slayer permanently is.

One of the only ways to make this enemy fun but still challenging is to counterattack with the ballista. This, at least, will turn the fight from an extreme nightmare into a regular, manageable nightmare. With the Arbalest mod, you'll be glory killing hordes of axe wielding baddies in no time.
