Dungeons And Dragons: 10 Abysmal Magical Items

8. Boots Of Striding And Springing

A good deal of the abilities that this magical footwear can provide you may ultimately prove useless once you start digging deeper into their capabilities. These boots, to begin with, increase your movement speed up to 30 feet. Which....is the base walking speed for the vast majority of each race. Plus, classes like Barbarians, Monks, and others have features that gradually increase your speed anyway, making it an extremely niche feature.

Next, the ability prevents a reduction in speed if your character is suffering from encumbrance, whether that penalty is incurred by wearing heavy armor or too much equipment. The problem with that is many DMs, myself included, opt not to use the encumbrance rules, provided players do not abuse the system.

Tripling your jump distance is a pretty fancy feature, but not used particularly frequently. And even that is hampered by text that specifies you cannot jump in excess of your remaining movement. If all three of your main abilities come with a caveat, then you know you've got a loser on your hands.
