Dungeons And Dragons 5e: How To Pick Your Class

3. Sorcerer

So you like casting spells, but you don’t want to waste time with, you know, learning how to cast spells. The sorcerer is your ideal choice. Born with raw magical talents, the sorcerer has a spell list that, while limited compared to the Wizard, is complimented by its unique use of metamagic, an ability that lets you shape the effects of a spell in different and effective ways.

Love using the spell to make your fighter faster? Why not twin it and share the ability with the Barbarian? In a tight space that calls for heavy damage? A Careful Spell augmentation on a Fireball will save your allies from unnecessary damage.

Sorcerers get their abilities from their origins, which provide a clue as to their heritage. While the Divine Soul sorcerer got their abilities from some celestial entity far back in their family tree, giving them access to Cleric spells, the Wild Magic sorcerer gets their power from the forces that created and shaped the universe, meaning that on occasion their spells can have side-effects that can prove incredibly useful, deadly, or downright hilarious. Nothing says D&D like casting a fireball and accidentally summoning a beard onto yourself made entirely made of butterflies.

If you don’t want a hefty spell list, but still enjoy the feel of sitting back and watching the world burn, you were born to play a Sorcerer.
