Dungeons And Dragons: Ranking Every Official 5e Module Worst To Best
13. The Rise Of Tiamat
The Rise of Tiamat is the direct sequel to Hoard of the Dragon Queen. Together they make up The Tyranny of Dragons story. In this module, your party continues its fight against the Cult of the dragon as they try to bring back Tiamat, the goddess of chromatic dragons. This time though things become a bit more complicated, you now have to gain allies and handle political situations. These can be just as dangerous as any cult.
Being a direct sequel to Hoard of the Dragon Queen, this module was written shortly after the first. This means it suffers from similar problems. Encounter balancing and railroading are still present. However, some great dungeons and the plot of political intrigue really help this module.
If your party wants to, you can even run The Rise of Tiamat by its self. While you would be missing out on some lore by not playing Hoard of the Dragon Queen first, it will not hurt your experience much. Many great modules would be released later, most being considered modern classics, but these two modules are still worth being played. They just suffered from being the first two to be released.
