5. Oculus Rift
Every once in a while, a medium tries to reinvent the way we experience it on a base level. We have seen it recently in films through the inventiveness of 3D. Games have been playing with this idea for a while, trying to figure out exactly how we could possibly get past just using our TVs and our controllers. Motion controls were a big innovation that proved to be a great seller, but has struggled to really be applied in any sort of meaningful way in terms of the advancement of the medium. Now, it looks like it is the Oculus Rift's turn to try and reinvigorate our experience of gaming. Bringing virtual reality back in a big way, the Oculus certainly is no Virtual Boy. It has so far got the support of major developers in the industry with people like Cliff Bleszinski and Gabe Newell already giving it the thumbs up. There are already several ports available for the tech and it is still very much in the development stages. Enthusiasts and developers are currently repurposing games to be played in VR as well as designing games specifically for the experience. The 3D virtual reality experience has been big news for those paying attention over the last few months and if Oculus play their cards right, they could well make a big noise at E3. I am very excited to see if I can get my hands on the tech and report back to you if it is just a gimmick or if it is indeed the future I think it could well be.
