3. Phantom Dust Remake

Killer Instinct and Shadow Warrior are two fairly well known examples of successful cult game reboots. But Microsoft threw everyone for a loop when they announced a reboot of Phantom Dust, a cult game from the original Xbox. The original Phantom Dust is a unique title, developed by Microsoft Game Studios, but produced and directed by Panzer Dragoon€™s director, Yukio Futatsugi. It combined card-like sets of powers know as Arsenals with strategy and action elements to create a unique gameplay experience. Its appearance at this year€™s E3 was a total shock, because there wasn€™t even a hint that this game was in development. Not only that, but it doesn€™t fit Microsoft€™s first party identity (shooters and racing games) or its history of ignoring its old original Xbox IPs (Killer Instinct excluded). That said, it€™s practically a new IP in a year dominated by sequels, and that makes it worth people€™s attention.
