E3 2014: 7 Reasons To Pay Attention This Year

6. More Pure Next-Gen Games

One of the biggest problems with the launch of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 was the fact that every non-exclusive title was also being developed for the PlayStation 3 and/or the Xbox 360. What this means is that every third party game has its resources split between three to five versions - all time, money, and personnel that could€™ve been used to make the Xbox One, PS4 and PC versions of the games even better, were instead used to make sure the games worked on lesser hardware. However, now that the PS4 and Xbox One have been flying off the shelves, game publishers have less incentive to spend money on cross generation versions of their games. Why? Supporting the old consoles was a business strategy to keep the publishers from losing too much money if gamers decided to pass on next generation consoles. Now that there€™s proven demand for the new consoles, publishers can feel confident about cutting out last gen versions for their new titles and won€™t have to deal with the handicap of designing games to work on up to five platforms, allowing them to push the newer tech to its limits. And that means better games for everyone.
