This year, Microsofts E3 press conference has more eyeballs on it than ever. Why? Because there have been a lot of changes at Microsoft since last E3. Don Mattrick, the man who championed a lot of the bad ideas associated with the Xbox One, isnt running Microsofts game division anymore. Instead his replacement Phil Spencer as promised that Microsoft will be all about games this year, which is why things like external hard drive support and removing the Xbox Live Gold requirement for media apps are being announced now. For gamers, paying attention to this press conference is a no-brainer. If youre in the Microsoft camp, you want to see if Spencer is telling the truth about this renewed focus on gaming. If youre a Sony fan, youll want to see what Microsofts cooked up now just out of curiosity, and if youre on the fence, you want to see if theres anything Microsoft can come up with to make you want the Xbox One over a PC or PS4. But theres also the fact that gaming is just more interesting when things arent completely dominated by one company, especially early in a console generation. Can Microsoft go from second fiddle to a legitimate contender in this generations race to console supremacy? Well see at E3.
