E3 2015: 12 Biggest Moments From Microsoft's Xbox Conference

10. Microsoft's VR Headset - Hololens & Minecraft

Okay, want some crazy mind-blowing future-tech to startle your grandparents? It's right here. Now, bare in mind how much Microsoft essentially pulled the wool over everyone's eyes with the initial Kinect demo, but being there's been plenty of hands-on time with the Hololens both on the show floor so far and in the lead-up to this briefing, and it seems like the final product is every bit as crazy as it sounds. Basically you'll put on the headset, and choose from a range of game experiences; the first they're showing is a version of Minecraft that actively turns any surface - be it wall or table - into a 3D diorama of your game world. From there you can pinch, pull and physically look around the model, activating various items and building things literally with your hands, albeit in virtual reality - crazy, right? With Lego Worlds taking over the digital creation space it's pretty funny that now Mojang have a Minecraft product that can be moulded in a somewhat physical space. The only hang-up is whether or not controlling things with your fingers and hands can be as deft and precise as is needed to sculpt more intricate models. Time will tell, but this debuted to a rapturous applause from the audience.
