E3 2016: 10 Returning Video Game Franchises You Woudn't See Coming
7. Battletoads
Youd think a game with a legacy like Battletoads would have been milked for all its worth, but it hasnt. The notoriously challenging original did spawn a couple sequels, but it only took a few years for the franchise to die down as the video game industry moved on. The name still carries prestige, but it has been decades since an original new game in the series was made.
Rumors concerning a new Battletoads have floated about for a long time though, and that of course means that there are many gamers who still hold out on the hope that it sees the light of day. There is a lot of nostalgia connected to this game series, and older gamers especially would explode in ecstasy if Microsoft came out one day and announced a brand new Battletoads for a new generation.
Sure, any franchise that returns after staying in hibernation for over 20 years is bound to causes a stir regardless, but Battletoads cult status would mean this announcement would break certain corners of the internet, especially if it maintained the same style and level of challenge that the franchise is remembered for. It may not necessarily be for you, but for many, Battletoads is a gaming treasure whose return is still being anticipated.
