E3 2016: 10 Returning Video Game Franchises You Woudn't See Coming
6. TimeSplitters
The TimeSplitters games have never been on the level of other major first-person shooters, but they have always been consistently entertaining. The franchise used its time-traveling premise to globe-trot across various time periods, which kept the level design fresh and diverse. Yet even with this intriguing premise, there have only been three TimeSplitters games, the last of which came out in 2005.
While a fourth game was on the table for a while, it was eventually canceled with no hope of revival. Obviously this franchise has been severely underutilized, and there are many who lament the untimely demise of these fun and colorful games. If by some miracle TimeSplitters were to return, the announcement would be met with thunderous celebration from those who remember playing it for hours with their friends.
In fact, it could easily be argued that TimeSplitters is needed now more than ever. With the FPS genre currently suffering from a severe lack of variety, the comic book style of this franchise would be a breath of fresh air and would look amazing on current generation consoles. TimeSplitters may not have ever been a major money maker, but there is a market for it, and another game would be perfect for those who find modern shooters increasingly dull.
