E3 2016: 10 Returning Video Game Franchises You Woudn't See Coming

5. Mother (EarthBound)

The Mother series has got to be one of Nintendos most neglected franchises. Even though its one of the companys oldest properties, there have only been three games, the last of which was released on the the Game Boy Advance in 2006. Even worse still is the fact that only the second game was made available outside of Japan, where it was renamed EarthBound.

Despite these barriers the franchise has earned a rabid cult following in the West. This fanbase has been under-served for decades, knowing that, even if another game were made, it likely would be withheld from international release yet again. This is why, if by some miracle, Nintendo announced another major Mother game along with the plans for an international release, it would be a massive development.

Mother fans have been so deprived for so long that this news would likely be met with stunned exhilaration. For whatever reason Nintendo hasnt given this franchise the same level of attention as its others, and a return would hopefully signal a new future for a franchise whose value remains high, even if the company doesnt see it yet.
