E3 2016: 7 Ups & 5 Downs From Microsoft's Conference

2. We Happy Few Looks Creepy & Imaginative

Xbox One S Recore
Compulsion Games

Gameplay from trippy and flat-out demented survival game We Happy Few turned a lot of heads at Microsoft's conference, depicting a man who, while living in 1964, refuses to take anti-depressant medication (known as "Joy") in order to suppress a major national trauma, as also afflicts everyone else around him.

After witnessing a woman being apparently accosted, the man walks into a room where a pinata is being attacked and the candy eaten, but the man, off his Joy, sees them instead feasting upon a dead rat.

Once the others realise that he's a "Downer", security are called, who chase the protagonist and beat him to a bloody pulp as creepily cheery music plays out.

The game enters the Xbox Preview program at the end of July, and looks set to be one of the most unique and unsettling video games of 2016.
