E3 2017: 10 Major Reveals & Announcements We Need To See
6. Borderlands 3 Is Officially Revealed
Depending on which Borderlands you're playing, you're either tasked with searching for a fabled vault full of alien loot by an unknown 'Guardian', or struggling against megalomaniac CEO 'Handsome Jack', who violently seeks control of Pandora's minerals and alien artifacts.
The role-playing shooter series has been critically acclaimed for its offbeat humor and a comics-like art style, drawing in millions of fans, and spans into comic books, novels, and is being developed as a film, (as announced in 2016, by film studio Lionsgate).
It seems obvious for Gearbox to announce a sequel to Borderlands 2, and indeed they did; Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed the game was in development as far back as 2014. Every year since then, gearbox has confirmed their plans for a sequel, and a tech demo was finally released in 2017's Game Developers Conference, based on the Unreal Engine 4.
There has been no official reveal of what the game will entail, only promises that the game will be the 'big one' (CEO Randy Pitchford at PAX South January 2015), and is being specifically developed for the 8th generation of consoles. We, and many others, hope E3 will be the year Borderlands 3 will be officially revealed.
