E3 2018: 10 Most Believable Rumours (That Won't Happen)
6. Sony Won't Announce Backwards Compatibility
Another major Sony rumour that's gained some traction over the past few weeks - thanks to some allegedly leaked memos as well as genuine patents signed by the company - is that they're gearing up to announce backwards compatibility to steal the thunder away from Xbox's biggest win of the generation.
As great as that would be, the reality is that Sony have stated multiple times that there are absolutely no plans to introduce the feature retroactively into the PS4. It could be possible, and the execs will be kicking themselves for not doing it earlier, but they've also invested heavily in a streaming service to run their answer to backwards compatibility, PS Now.
It's more likely that the patents are indeed indicative of Sony's re-embracement of making games from older generations compatible with their new machines, but that will be something they implement with the PS5, rather than the PS4.
