E3 2018: 10 Ups & 5 Downs From Microsoft's Conference
2. The Disappointing Xbox Game Pass Segment
With the success of Xbox Game Pass so far, it really felt like Microsoft's E3 show was the perfect time to double down their commitment by announcing a host of new titles joining the library, announcing some surprise third-party games joining Game Pass day-and-date, and maybe even shadow-dropping a neat indie game or two.
Considering that subscription services such as this could very well be the future of gaming for many, it's a shame that Game Pass got such a mild treatment at the conference.
Sure, The Division, The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited and Fallout 4 were added immediately, but those games are all several years old.
It's definitely cool to have confirmation that Forza Horizon 4 will launch on Game Pass, and smaller titles such as Ashen, Warhammer Vermintide 2, After Party and Phoenix Point will also drop day-and-date, but clearly Microsoft still has plenty of work to do if Game Pass is really going to become a premiere, high-value gaming subscription service.
