E3 2018: 5 Ups & 5 Downs From Bethesda's Conference

2. No Doom Eternal Gameplay

As expected, the sequel to 2016's fantastic Doom reboot was revealed, though rather than simply be called Doom II, Bethesda opted for the no-less generic "Doom Eternal."

A glossy cinematic trailer was shown off, depicting literal Hell on Earth and suggesting the Doom Slayer will be facing off against giant, Lovecraftian worms this time around.

It looked neat... but where was the damn gameplay? Even though the game presumably isn't dropping until sometime next year, it was fairly reasonable to expect a first look. Instead, Bethesda said we wouldn't see any more from the game until QuakeCon in August.

So, it was basically an announcement for an announcement. The teaser was neat, but this felt like the right time to finally show off how the game's shaping up.
