E3 2018: 6 Major Improvements Each Company Must Make
2. Sony - Surprise Us
With a track record of bringing big surprise announcements that really kicked hard, last year was relatively quiet. Asides that Shadow Of The Colossus would get a from-the-ground-up remake, Sony didn’t tell us anything new really - unless you were into VR.
This was likely due to so many of big reveals already announced via their numerous annual expos from across the year (e.g. PlayStation Experience, Paris Games Week) with E3 no longer the convention they save everything up for.
Certainly, deeper looks at Days Gone, Spider-Man and Death Stranding (although still no gameplay) worked, as well as more in-depth trailers for God Of War, Uncharted: Lost Legacy and Detroit: Become Human. Regardless, the whole thing was painfully lacking in surprises.
Now, with several of those big titles having already released on the market, it has freed up the palette for more of the unknown.
This is a contradiction to what they’ve already proposed though, as the conference will take a revamped approach that looks thoroughly into four already announced games - yet, one hopes they can manage to pull a sly ace-out-of-their-sleeve at least once or twice.
