E3 2018: Every Conference Ranked Worst To Best
5. Bethesda
We're going to be a little controversial here and actually grade Bethesda's show lower than most seem to have, because as immediately compelling as it was to see Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI formally announced, those logo reveals ultimately didn't amount to much.
The main issue with Bethesda's show was the horrible pacing: it was almost 15 minutes before we saw a scrap of gameplay, and the Andrew W.K. musical number was wasted on a dead crowd who (hilariously) didn't care.
There was far too much of a focus on card and mobile games, a ton of cringey chatter and the disappointing lack of gameplay for Doom Eternal.
However, Rage 2 was able to pretty much steal the show as a result, new offerings for Prey and Wolfenstein look neat, and we got a convincing deep dive into Fallout 76. Plus, as brief as its reveal was, it was certainly satisfying to have Starfield finally confirmed after all these years.
Overall, it was a frustrating showing from Bethesda: this was often a legitimately poor conference, yet was ultimately propped up by some great moments and the indefatigable charm of director Todd Howard.
