2. Can A Fallout Game Really Be Interesting Without The History?

No one needs reminding of just how compelling Fallout's mythos is, but without all the decades' worth of post-apocalyptic history to draw from, it just isn't the same thing.

Of course, a great deal of Fallout's charm comes from its 'world of tomorrow' fifties aesthetic. Learning more about the world before the bombs dropped has and always will be a part of the series, but without the Brotherhood of Steel, the New Commonwealth or even the Kings from New Vegas, things just aren't as compelling.

Fallout needs that established history to get going, and though the sheer diversity of enemies, creatures and other threats in 76 looks compelling enough, what's a vault-dweller to do without some classic Fallout factionalism?
