E3 2019: 10 Most Disappointing Video Game No-Shows
5. Splinter Cell
Well, technically this one isn't true because Sam Fisher did show-up at Ubisoft's E3 press conference. However that cameo was part of the new mobile game Elite Squad - which was eerily similar to the Blizzard Diablo mobile game fiasco.
So we didn't get the Splinter Cell game we were after. It's been six years since Splinter Cell: Blacklist and the hunger is tangible. Every year we hear predictions for the return of the series and the desire for that reveal is real. It's a beloved franchise that will undoubtedly come back around some day, but when and in what form we don't know.
The cynical side of me feels that Splinter Cell is inherently single-player and unsuitable for micro-transactions, so Ubisoft isn't interested in it right now.
Regardless, we shouldn't have been expecting Splinter Cell at E3 2019. Just a few weeks ago, a developer from Ubisoft tweeted that he was working on Splinter Cell and changed his Twitter banner to the green goggles.
Ubisoft said it was a drunken joke, and Kotaku's on-the-pulse Jason Schreier confirmed it as just that; going as far as to say no Splinter Cell is currently in development.
