E3 2019: 10 Most Disappointing Video Game No-Shows
3. Fable 4
Fable is one of Microsoft's most beloved gaming franchises. All three mainline instalments were critically acclaimed, and all sold a respective 3 million copies. So why on earth did Fable go away?
Well, following the third game in the series, Lionhead Studios made some ill-sighted decisions to make a cutesy arcade game and an on-rails Kinect title. Lionhead then attempted to reboot Fable with a new multiplayer title on Xbox One, but it was cancelled and the developer shuttered. It seemed like a very cut-throat decision from Microsoft, considering it was likely the driving force behind Lionhead's meandering years.
Fable has been dormant since 2012, and it's been a further two years since the last mainline game. For the past year, rumours have been swirling that Playground Games, the developer behind the brilliant Forza series, has been toiling away on a Fable reboot. It makes sense because Playground is British, just like Lionhead, and thus has the unique sense of humour that Fable requires. Not to mention, Microsoft has been seeking a AAA RPG to compete with PlayStation's Horizon: Zero Dawn.
We expected to see Fable reboot at E3 2019 but it was another no-show. This could have been the trailer that took Xbox's show from underwhelming to awesome.
