E3 2019: 11 Leaked Video Games You're Not Supposed To Know About

9. Splinter Cell

Splinter Cell Blacklist
Ubisoft

Okay, this thing? This is the big 50/50, "Will it/Won't it be there?!" conundrum. Let's break down the "For" and "Against":

For:

- A tweet from Ubisoft Creative Director Julian Gerighty claiming a new Splinter Cell is in development:

This tweet was replied to by Julian who said "Ok - plz don’t retweet. I may be in trouble", with Ubisoft issuing a statement saying he was "joking" about the whole thing. Because joking about long-awaited sequels is hilarious.

- A vaguely named "Splinter Cell" was listed on the 2018 Walmart leak from last year, to which almost every game was then at the show, minus Splinter Cell itself. Still, it points to something being in the works, right?

- A set of Sam Fisher goggles listed as a pre-order bonus on Gamestop's website, that were then deleted:

- Michael Ironside returned as Sam Fisher in Ghost Recon: Wild Lands' DLC, ending his mission on a cliffhanger as he departed on another to retrieve some nuclear warheads. Ironside was since interviewed by Gamespot, where he stated he "never left" the character, and we'd have to "see if any organic storylines" allowed him to continue.

Honestly, why would Ubisoft foot the bill for Ironside's time, and only use him for a handful of lines in a DLC??

Against:

- In a post detailing Watch Dogs Legion being leaked (more on that in a bit), Kotaku's Jason Schreier answered a followup fan question about the status of Splinter Cell with "I think people hoping for Splinter Cell this year are in for disappointment."

There's certainly WAY more in the "For" column overall (and SC: Blacklist was literally six years ago), but with Jason being the one opposed (and he's literally the most trusted guy in the industry), it's a mystery.

Things appears to skew towards another Splinter Cell existing in some form, but we won't know officially until Monday.
