E3 2019: 20 Huge Video Game Announcements You Need To Know
13. Marvel's The Avengers Is A Multiplayer "Live Service" Title, Releases May 15, 2020
After first being announced at the start of 2017, Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal's Avengers game was finally unveiled at the end of Square Enix's conference.
As expected, the title is a narrative-driven third-person action game starring Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Hulk and Black Widow, and will feature co-operative elements, while following the now popular "live service" model.
But honestly, it was a relatively flat reveal for a game many were expecting to be blown away by - the character designs are unimaginative and hew too closely to those of the MCU, the visuals look relatively unremarkable, and we didn't actually see any unambiguous, sustained gameplay footage beyond a few scattered glimpses spliced into cinematics.
The vocally divided online response ensures expectations have just been lowered across the board, but on the plus side, it was confirmed that the game won't feature loot boxes or microtransactions, so that's nice.
