E3: 9 Biggest Bombshells From Microsoft's Conference

9. Crackdown Returns!...And Owes Disney A Royalty Check

A great surprise was the reveal that a new Crackdown game being in the works for the Xbox One, and the CGI trailer was definitely exciting. With Xbox President Phil Spencer making a point to highlight that one of Grand Theft Auto's creators - David Jones - was yet again on board with the franchise, players can be confident that the game will deliver a quality sci-fi open-world experience. But it may seem a bit familiar. If you didn't get 'Tron' vibes from the trailer, you probably haven't see Tron, or its (really good) sequel, Tron: Legacy; the ending of the trailer was also quite a bit like the ending to Stephen King's The Running Man, for what its worth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qFRkbmm2qc This is actually encouraging, as both Tron and Running Man hold hundreds of creative ideas that are ripe for the picking in the interactive media space, and considering that Saints Row 4 was essentially Crackdown 3 in gameplay if not style, Xbox and David Jones should be allowed to rip off...erm, "pay homage" to whomever they want. Beyond that, the game looks to be ooozing with visual style, and combining the Tron-vibes of the game world with some Team Fortress 2-esque character design and animation means that Crackdown 3 will at the least be a visual delight as you leap from rooftop to rooftop ignoring whatever the main content of the game is to collect more orbs.
