E3: 9 Biggest Bombshells From Microsoft's Conference

8. The Witcher 3 Put Bethesda On Notice

If you want a bombshell, look no further than the gameplay demo for CD ProjecktRED's latest entry in the Witcher series. With glorious graphics, gorgeous vistas, great animation and gory combat that results in arms being severed and torsos being eviscerated, it looks like The Witcher 3 is gonna break through in a big way. Witcher 2 was a phenomenal, but a hard nut to crack, with difficult combat, some obtuse crafting mechanics, and somewhat sectioned off environments making it a title that was hard to in love with. However it looks like The Witcher 3 is trying to streamline a lot of those elements in an effort to reach a broader audience, which hopefully results in the richness of that universe coming through a little more clearly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGtEJx6gEgE If you add in an intuitive beast-tracking system, a legacy of great writing and a focus on an open world you influence in a multitude of ways, you do not want to be a Bethesda employee right now. The Witcher 3 demo did the open-world fantasy RPG game thing in such a way that you can never look at the wooden animation and dead-eyed stare of Skyrim's characters again. Don't forget that this game is will be miles deep narratively too, with branching story options that are more The Walking Dead than Mass Effect in terms of their ambiguity, and there may just be a new king of the open-world castle.
