EA UFC 4: 10 Things We Want To See
4. A No Holds Barred Mode
In recent years the UFC has quietly distanced itself from the more-spectacle-than-sport action that was common in bouts during the 1990s. Back in the day when the organisation was run by Semaphore Entertainment Group, the moniker of MMA had yet to be applied to fighting in a cage with the now-sport more often referred to as No Holds Barred (NHB).
The only prohibited techniques in the early UFC events were biting and eye-gouging with pretty much everything else legal for the combatants in the cage to try and utilise in their favour.
A throwback mode implemented in the UFC games that utilised the NHB ruleset could be awesome with the right roster. Imagine propelling your opponents skyward with a bare-knuckle Francis Ngannou uppercut, or stopping takedowns as Jose Aldo with a perfectly timed soccer kick.
This one is a little more unlikely with EA probably not wanting to associate themselves with an era of the sport where repeated d*ck punches were a legit means of escaping a submission attempt, but, even then, some kind of throwback to the early days of the UFC would be welcomed by a large portion of the fanbase.
