Elden Ring: 6 Key Gameplay Details We Want To See
5. Bloodborne's Rallying Mechanic
The simple mechanic in Bloodborne whereby the player is given a short window to recover lost health by attacking their enemies was a stroke of absolute genius. It encourages faster, aggressive play which would be perfect for a game with the scope of Elden Ring.
You want a skirmish with a group of bandits to be brutal and slick, not having to cower behind your shield while you wait for a chance to strike, or running behind a tree to chug a healing potion. 'Rallying' allows for this aggressive combat and quashes the concern over taking a bit of damage here and there.
It is curious that FromSoftware chose not to include this mechanic in Dark Souls III or Sekiro, but those games lent themselves to more methodical and stealthy play-styles, allowing time to heal if the player so chooses. Hopefully in Elden Ring we see a return to aggressive, quick gameplay that the rallying mechanic will thrive in.
