Elden Ring: 6 Key Gameplay Details We Want To See
2. Clashing Swords
Parrying has been a staple in the majority of FromSoftware’s titles. The fast action of Bloodborne made parrying easier and more exciting than Dark Souls and pushed players to use it wherever possible. But in Bloodborne you parried with a firearm, and it seems like gun slinging won’t exactly fit with the feel of Elden Ring.
On the other hand, Sekiro's combat- although difficult to get used to at first- opened the door to a spectacular fighting experience that relied heavily on deflecting your opponent's attacks with your sword. The result was some of the smoothest combat ever put in a video game and it immersed the player by putting them in complete control when engaging in one-on-one duels.
As with any FromSoftware game, Elden Ring’s combat should still be the priority. Being stopped on your travels by a couple of bandits and engaging in fast, smooth, intelligent combat with an effective parrying mechanic applicable to not just shields, but swords as well, will allow the player to be fully immersed in the brutal world of Elden Ring.
