A locale featured in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, a return to the Imperial capital has been a long time coming, with the fourth Elder Scrolls having first released over twelve years ago. Though fans do of course want to see a brand new setting, a return to Cyrodiil actually makes a great deal of chronological sense, with Skyrim having built up the threat of the Aldmeri Dominion and the collapse of the Empire.

Cyrodiil is the Imperial capital. That makes it the jewel in the crown of Tamriel, and though Oblivion looked to depict the locale under less dire circumstances (initially), the prospect of returning to a capital divided, broken, and under threat of Elven invasion would be both a welcome change, and an interesting contrast.

Yes, it's been done before. That doesn't mean it shouldn't be done again, however, and with Skyrim having left quite a few threads to be explored in a future release, a return to Cyrodiil makes plenty of sense.
