2. Dark Souls 3
Few games compare to the scale and excitement of Dark Souls III. This is the Dark Souls game that got it all perfect. The gameplay is the absolute best in the trilogy, with various weapons to find, upgrades to collect, and much tighter gameplay that makes the game a lot fairer than previous entries.
The areas are also incredible; Lothric serves as the perfect starting point, giving you a corrupted castle that’s eerie in its people and architecture, only for the game to hit you with a wide variety of memorable locations with the likes of the Catacombs of Carthus or Anor Londo. These places are all extraordinarily memorable, bolstered by the same sense of dread Dark Souls is so famous for.
Gameplay and bosses are the most fun they’ve been, with Gundyr a weirdly perfect introduction to both the game’s difficulty and mechanics. His hard yet fair fight leads to some of the best bosses in the series, such as The Dancer of the Boreal Valley, Yhorm the Giant and The Nameless King.
Dark Souls III is the near-perfect souls game, and would only be topped by one title many years later...
