When Elden Ring was released earlier this year, it was expected to be one of the greatest of the year. But few expected it to become one of the greatest of all time.

Ever since Breath of the Wild came out, open-world games have tried to catch up to its free and open nature while giving the player things to do at every corner. Elden Ring is the first game to reach the same levels.

When you first start the world, you look at the map and realize it's enormous. When you beat the first boss, you think you’re approaching the end after ten hours of gameplay, and maybe there’s not much game left. Only to see the expanded world map and realize that this game is big.

The enemy designs are the most iconic yet with characters that have already become iconic like Malenia and Radahn; there are so many spells and weapons that make a heaven for experimentation and room to create cool builds, and the game has some of the most compelling lore we’ve seen from Miyazaki that’s somewhat possible to understand without having to watch 75 YouTube videos.

Elden Ring is, simply put, the most incredible souls game ever made, and it’s going to take a miracle for FromSoftware to top it again.
