4. Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures

Remember Super Star Wars, the over the top platform series that took the classic sci-fi franchise and turned it on its head? Imagine that with Indiana Jones and you have Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures on the Super Nintendo.

Developed by the same team behind the Super Star Wars series, Greatest Adventures adapted the original trilogy and coupled it with tough as nails platforming, arcade-like progression and boss battles that definitely, absolutely did not happen on the big screen, like the time Indy fought Donovan's skeleton at the end of The Last Crusade. Classic stuff, that.

Using the Mode 7 graphics option, the game also had you chased in quasi-3D by the giant boulder from Raiders of the Lost Ark, riding the mine carts from Temple of Doom and dog fighting a German warplane as in Last Crusade.

Factor 5, who would later develop the Rogue Squadron series for the Nintendo GameCube, also cheated ever so slightly in the best way possible by reusing certain Han Solo animations from Super Star Wars in creating Indy's movements. It might not be as well remembered as its Star Wars series siblings, but its animations and gameplay hold up remarkably well.

Born in Ireland and raised in Australia, Mark still wishes his Tetris and Mario Kart skills could translate to the real world more than just writing about games for nearly 20 years. Still, can't complain.
