Every Mainline Resident Evil Ranked From Worst To Best
5. Resident Evil 4 (2023)
Remaking one of the most influential games of all time is a gargantuan task yet 2023's Resident Evil 4 is thankfully up for the task.
The remake faithfully captures what made the original so great: having hordes of enemies attacking Leon with the fear of being overwhelmed. Foes have been improved with the enemy AI implementing tactics to flank and outmaneuver the player. At the same time, the game barely cuts any content which was something the Resident Evil 3 remake got flak for - so mostly every segment from the 2005 game has been brought back with some minor tweaks.
One of the new things it adds is its presentation. Rendered beautifully on the RE Engine, the game is gorgeous while increasing the atmosphere to keep it in line with the RE 2 and 3 Remakes. A great addition as well is the parry mechanic where Leon uses his knife for defense. Timing your parries can help you block chainsaws, and attacks, and overall adds a new layer of strategy in combat situations.
Though the remake isn't a game changer like its source material, it still deserves recognition for improving upon it and perfectly translating it for a modern audience.
