4. Resident Evil 2 (2019)
2019's Resident Evil 2 Remake blends the modern aesthetic of RE7 while bringing back even elements from the original games. A reimagining of the 1998 classic, the title maintains key events while modernizing it through the use of the third-person perspective.
Despite its contemporary presentation, the game retains the horror of its source material with the RE Engine beautifully recreating famous locales such as the RPD Station and parts of Raccoon City. Zombies are tougher this time around; being able to deal with more damage and being more durable than ever. Finally, Mr. X has been improved, following Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield across levels without ever feeling scripted.
The remake also adds a few new things to the original with new areas such as The Nest. At the same time, some areas have been tweaked to subvert retuning players' expectations which can lead to some well-earned scares. The main cast's redesigns also received praise with the characters appearing almost true to life.
If Resident Evil 7 kickstarted a new era for the series, RE2 Remake serves as a bridge between the old and the new while its success has led to even more remakes.
