Every Mainline Resident Evil Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Resident Evil (2002)

Resident Evil 4 Remake
Capcom

2002's Resident Evil is a quintessential entry in the series and captures what made the original great by retaining most of its gameplay while improving the dated storytelling.

The title has one of the best uses of pre-rendered backgrounds, with the Spencer Mansion looking atmospheric even by today's standards. The tank controls have also been improved while sequences like the iconic hound jumpscare were tweaked to surprise even the most hardcore fans. Of course, the voice acting is also more bearable this time around and has lessened some of the unintentional humor of the first game.

A new addition to the remake is Lisa Trevor, a mutated girl who will stalks the underground areas. At the same time, characters like Richard Aiken have been greatly expanded with more depth being given to them. Finally, a great addition to the remake is the Crimson Heads. A tougher, scarier version of the standard zombies, these creatures add extra tension in the latter half of the game and will keep players on their toes.

To those who want to try out the classic RE style of gameplay that isn't too dated, then Resident Evil Remake is a high recommend.
