Every Mainline Resident Evil Ranked From Worst To Best
7. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard successfully reignited the series and returned to the survival horror roots that made the series popular. As Ethan Winters, players have to look for their wife, Mia, while encountering the deadly Baker family - all having different abilities.
The game is the first mainline entry to be in the first-person perspective. Combined with the then-new RE Engine, the result is a highly realistic-looking game where every detail has been beautifully rendered. Biohazard made Resident Evil scary again and features great setpieces like the chainsaw duel with Jack Baker while having one of the best settings in the series.
Of course, the game does have a few weaknesses with its short length and linear gameplay being a point of contention. Puzzle-solving, while a welcome return, has been overly simplified and has little-to-no challenge whatsoever. There is also a lack of enemy variety while the final boss is very underwhelming.
But in the end, RE7 was the game the franchise needed to keep on going. It successfully launched a new era for the franchise and is still a thrilling entry today.
