2. Until Dawn

The ONLY thing that stops Uncharted 4 from reaching higher comes down to its reliance on repeating the original trilogy's base mechanics, rather than expanding on them (outside of a grappling hook, anyway).

Until Dawn on the other hand, tells an incredibly impressive story riddled with branching pathways and options for main characters to die every half hour or so, and still brings it all around for a fantastic finish.

In terms of setup this revels in the tropes of teen horror, seeing a group of friends return to the site of a place where two of them perished, only for more things to go bump in the night. The whole thing is awash in a picture-perfect presentation with incredible graphics, gameplay is old-school Resident Evil-inspired horror, and thanks to the expertly-revealed beats of the story, you'll be hooked from start to finish.

Releasing in 2015 apparently did Until Dawn no favours against such strong competition, but Supermassive's creation is a masterpiece, and should be regarded as such.
